Govinder Nazran

Govinder Nazran (Artist) was best known for his vibrant paintings of animals—especially cats and dogs, as well as horses, elephants, and people.

Govinder’s Style

His works often featured bold, Rothko-inspired blocks of colour, layered shading, and inventive use of materials such as gold leaf, glitter, staples, and string.

Many of his pieces paired animals to explore themes of duality and balance, including yin and yang, family, love, and good versus evil. Alongside his paintings, he also produced sculptures, both figurative and abstract. This further expanded his creative voice.

His work achieved wide acclaim and commercial success, with collectors across the UK, the United States, and Japan. In 2004, the Fine Art Trade Guild named him Best Selling Published Artist.

He later enjoyed two sold-out tours in Japan, where audiences especially admired his work.

What happened to Govinder?

On Christmas Eve 2008, Nazran suffered a fall at his home in Saltaire. He died six days later, on December 30, in intensive care at Bradford Royal Infirmary from head injuries sustained in the fall.
